Rafe Sagarin, Issue Challenges, Not Orders
Speaking at IdeaFestival 2013, Marine biologist Rafe Sagarin says he studies nature to find the secrets to adapt and thrive in a time of rapid change. The octopus, for example, has a very decentralized way of acting, and makes efficient use of its unique physiology to manage life's complexities. When it comes to innovation, the number one thing we need to do, Sagarin says, is "to switch from giving orders to issuing challenges." He is the author of "Learning from the Octopus: How secrets from nature can help us fight terrorist attacks, natural disasters and disease"
